Getting Started

A dream has been kicking around in my head for the past couple years. It goes something like this: Drive all around America on a motorcycle, sleep at campgrounds, do favors for people, photograph everything, and write about it.

There are a few problems. I don't own a motorcycle, yet. I don't know much about campgrounds around the country. I don't even know what route I'd take said motorcycle on.

But the dream remains. And this blog is going to follow it—and me—to the end of the road, so to speak. It'll run, I think, something like a how-to. First, a motorcycle buying guide, then a lesson in mapping America, a how-to break into writing, and, finally, a study in people.

A few goals for the trip:

- Visit all 49 continental states (Alaska may prove difficult)

- Find some interesting people

- Help somebody each day (give directions, paint a fence, volunteer, etc)

Hopefully by the end of it all I'll be a better writer and person. We're a few years out from the big trip now. Preparations will be made. My schooling will end. Then all bets are off.

'Til then, we've got a dream!
